enabled:If it was up to the police, they would warn against every hip-hop show. The problem I've seen with that is that when they show up looking to go on the offensive, it often irritates a crowd and creates an increased negative energy, which in turn destroys the positive atmosphere at many hip-hop shows.
the bad cuzin:"There were rumors circulating about the show and people told me not to put it on," the promoter says. "Some of these people are from down south and some of them are from the Central District
so BK is this true or not

Well since Kountry doesn't want to explain, and it has been brought up numerous times in the media reports, I will explain where I believe the source of this rumor is stemming from.
On Saturday afternoon, Kountry was sending out his promo txt msgs about the show. I replied back to one of them and said (jokingly) "You better wear a vest tonight...it could get ugly." He replied back "Why do you say that?" I explained to him that there is a war raging between the Central District & the South End and since there were artists on the bill who are affiliated with those areas, there could potentially be some problems. I wasn't saying that there was definitely going to be problems, just the possibility. I told him..."Don't stress out about it, just stay on your toes and keep your eyes open tonight." These artists perform shows all the time around town without incident, but in light of the recent CD - South End turmoil (which Kountry is not familiar with), I suggested a little more caution than usual. Mostly because of the location of the club (Central District). I was more worried about some of the people from the CD doing a drive-by on the place than anything actually happening inside or around the club.
Immediately after the shooting, Kountry apparently made some comments to some IDIOT affiliated with The Stranger. One of which that was taken out of context was the comment about how he had supposedly been "warned not to proceed with the show," which is a LIE. Kountry must have mentioned my commentary to the Stranger guy and it was interpreted as a warning to stop the show. How this has turned into "Police warned him...blah, blah, blah" I don't know. IT'S NOT TRUE. It was a simple comment from me basically telling him to exercise a little more caution than usual that night. Why he mentioned my commentary to the Stranger guy, I don't know, but they put a spin on it and here we are now.
In the end, this had nothing to do with the CD - South End war.
slump:
I think the slog post by eli is a shade off the mark. I cant speak for anyone else but I attended because I wanted to see friends who I knew were shaken up. I went to get grounded. I wanted to hear what people had to say, and to see what suggestions would come to light, to see what action might be decided upon after a bit of 'group-think'. I wasnt there to spin control the media, I'm not part of some west wing press corps squad, sheesh.
Billy the Fridge:I guess he was culture shocked when we weren't all selling crack, pistol whipping hoes and making it rain dolla dolla bills, ya'll.
grendel:I actually like Eli's article...his comments about the Clinton team are a positive thing...go watch the documentary.

gatsworth:"Earlier this year, King County prosecutors made a concerted effort to keep guns out of the hands of one of the suspects in Sunday's shooting at Chop Suey. "
Mack Long:UPDATE:
I just got off the phone with a friend of mine that recently spoke with Prez's grandmother, who offered up some information for us. Prez was shot twice; once in the chest and once in the neck. The bullet in his chest went through his lung and his liver, and they've performed several surgeries to stop the internal bleeding and to remove the blood that's been pooling in his stomach, and will continue to do so while it's still needed. The neck wound is superficial and didn't cause much damage. His vital signs are strong and the hospital staff remain optimistic about his outcome.
And I'm pretty sure I just said that we should be careful as to not overwhelm Prez's mother with a large group of people at the hospital, but please believe I will be there tonight so that she knows that there are people here to care about him and want him to pull though. I encourage anybody else that wants to to do the same. Just step lightly, chill, and be patient.
D-SANE:Prez's mom doesn't need a welcoming party and I don't think that more than 2 or 3 of you who are personal friends of his should go down there to the hospital.complete cosign.they were all...ergo...vis-à-vis...concordantly!!! and then there's me
Barfly:Dominic Holden's posted a Slog article about last night.
http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2009/01/05/no_statement_yet_from_hiphop_c
He's even posted in the comments and his take on things is pretty damned tuned in.
You guys should read his comments. It was like seeing sunshine after spending the entire day chained to a waterheater in the basement.
Or something like that.

D-SANE:I love Sonny...but he just says some really ignorant shit sometimes.

Speedy The Artist:Whats his name on the slog?
D-SANE:
There's just something that really rubbed me the wrong way about Sonny's comment on the last line there.

and i never suggested a welcoming party. i'll be at harborview tonight.
Mack Long:Ahhh got it thanks.Speedy The Artist:Whats his name on the slog?
his comment was the last line of the article.
this was NOT Kountry's fault.
I'm not trying to fit in and to be honest, I don't want to!

Yeah, nothing against anyone in particular but out of everyone in attendance it seemed pretty obvious to me that we needed a moritorium on issuing personal statements and we needed one person (IMO, Lar) to speak on shit if and when.
I cringed when I looked around and saw the huddle break and it was off into people making press statements and filming youtubes and shit.
We just fucking get done signing off on the idea of not releasing a statement and then motherfuckers are going on record.
Whatever. I laughed. Schadenfreude, but I laughed. Most important thing is we got some footing on what we can do to help the victims and their families and got to air out some of our sadness.
OnAMission:But it is a promoters job to pick a responsible lineup of act's and provide the best show for the fan's as he/she can...
Barfly:I cringed when I looked around and saw the huddle break and it was off into people making press statements and filming youtubes and shit.agreed, it was weird and i don't look down on anyone that did give statements, i didn't see the point after the meeting we had had and asking everything to stay off the record.
